10 Tips For A Safety And Secure Halloween

10 Tips For A Safety And Secure Halloween

Halloween is a special holiday for the children as they get to dress up as their favorite super hero, cartoon character, or some may go the scary route and dress up as a Witch, Vampire, or other "Things That Go Bump In The Night". Kids Love Halloween and with minimal preparation and a little common sense you can make this a Halloween for your children to remember, one that is both Fun and Safe.

Tips that will help keep your children safe and secure during "Trick or Treat"

1. It is not safe to allow young people to walk around the neighborhood after dark so be sure to send a responsible adult or older teenager along for the trip.

2. Choose a costume that is comfortable, flame resistant, and allows for good peripheral vision. It is also good to have some type of reflective tape on the costume to allow better visibility.

3. Providing your children with a filling "Spooky Halloween" meal before letting them go out to Trick or Treat will make them less likely to dig into the candy before they get home and you can check it out.

4. If your child is carrying a prop such as a Sword, Pitch Fork, or Scythe make sure that the edges are smooth and flexible to avoid injuries.

5. If candles are used in your Jack O Lanterns be sure they are placed far enough out of the way so no kids costumes accidentally catch fire. You may want to consider using Jack O Lantern light kits which can be found at your local Wal Mart or K Mart.

6. General everyday safety such as looking both ways before crossing the street, do not talk to strangers, do not get into any cars, or keep each other in sight at all times will go a long ways towards having a fun time.

7. If you are not going to go along with your children be sure that you know the route they will be taking and any stops that are planned during the outing.

8. Explain the difference between tricks and vandalism, also include that there is usually a clean up cost associated with vandalism. If they are caught vandalizing they should be made to clean up the mess that they have made.

9. Give them a time to be home and make sure they understand the importance of being home on time.

10. Be aware that Halloween also gives criminals a chance to dress up and blend in just about anywhere they want, so keep an eye out for strangers and people you do not recognize. Always keep up with the children in your group. And carry your preferred personal protection device and some canine repellent.

These are just a few of the actions that can be taken to make sure that this Halloween is both Fun and Safe. Just remember to use your head when making decisions that directly affect the safety of yourself and your family.
